Ashlie Sveum for County Supervisor
MITCHELL COUNTY 2026 • COMMUNITY FIRST • ACCOUNTABLE LEADERSHIP • ASHLIE SVEUM FOR SUPERVISOR •
Local Control, Affordable Housing, and Public Comment
My name is Ashlie Sveum, and I am running for Mitchell County Board of Supervisors District 1. I moved to Osage when I was 6 years old and I have spent most of my life right here. I love living in our community. I hike or bike our local trails nearly every day, and I enjoy eating at our local restaurants. Especially the chimichangas at Tres Amigos and the broasted chicken at the Old County Seat. We get to live in one of the best counties in Iowa and with the Cedar River for fishing and kayaking, it is definitely the most beautiful. I am running because District 1 needs a supervisor who listens to the community and will keep our people, land, water, and natural resources’ best interests at the forefront of their decision-making.
As your candidate for County Supervisor in District 1, I am committed to transparent leadership, affordable housing, and maintaining local control for Mitchell County. Together, we will build a stronger, more resilient district for every family.
A Strategic Vision for Mitchell County
Local Control
I will fight to maintain local control so we can decide for ourselves what industries and projects like data centers for bitcoin mining or A.I. come into our county, rather than folks living outside our county making decisions for us.
Affordable housing
I'm committed to working for affordable housing so folks can stay in our community and even encourage others to move here.
Ashlie Sveum is committed to building a future that prioritizes transparency, protecting community, water, and land for every constituent in our county.
Public comment
Public comments at the Board of Supervisors meetings need to be protected and encouraged. If elected, I will work to change our calendar to include at least one meeting per month held at night, so more residents can attend and be heard.
A Community Member Committed to Accountability
Since September 2024, I have stood shoulder to shoulder with our neighbors here in Mitchell County to stop a hazardous liquid CO2 pipeline from being built with the use of eminent domain. We have spent our time listening to residents and collecting signatures to fight for a setback and zoning ordinance to protect Mitchell County from this dangerous project. Our Board of Supervisors had a chance to show us they valued maintaining local control and protecting our community by passing an ordinance. Instead, they voted against it 3 to 2, regardless of overwhelming public support for it. I believe our community knows what is best for us. We need to see that reflected in our supervisors' decisions. On Wednesday, May 13th the company behind this project withdrew their request for a permit to build in Mitchell County. However, we cannot let any more time pass without this ordinance to protect our community, land, and water and if I am elected, passing an ordinance like this would be my first priority.
